Graduate students keep Pfeiffer in the family

Joe and Amanda Meloni and Ashley Taillefer are family members who are all enrolled in the graduate program at Pfeiffer.

Pfeiffer University is often described as a close-knit family of faculty, staff and students. Three students in the graduate program know this to be true in more ways than one.

Amanda Meloni, a MBA/MSL student and her husband, Joseph Meloni, a MSL student from Charlotte and Amanda’s sister, Ashley Taillefer, who is pursuing her MHA degree on Pfeiffer’s RTP campus in Morrisville, are able to say they can support one another through their education journey.

Amanda started the MBA/MSL program in summer  2011 after considering several other universities in the area. She chose Pfeiffer because of the wide variety of course offerings and flexible class schedule that allows students to work full-time.

As a successful business relationship manager at Wells Fargo, Amanda recognizes the opportunities for career advancement that a MBA/MSL degree can provide, especially in the banking industry.

“The combination MBA/MSL will allow me to stand out as a candidate for other positions in the future,” said Amanda. “I expect this will lead to further promotions, possibly managing and overseeing larger teams in my organization.”

Joe had considered pursuing a graduate degree for some time when Amanda enrolled. When he witnessed Amanda’s successful experience in graduate school, he made the decision to enroll in the Master of Science in Leadership Program.

He chose the MSL program specifically because he believes in the importance of leadership. According to Joe, managers who are most effective are well-equipped for their position and possess the leadership skills that the MSL program instills in its students.

Joe has a hectic work schedule due to his role as a police officer for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.  However, Pfeiffer’s staff and faculty have been extremely helpful in accommodating his busy schedule.

“The faculty and staff members at Pfeiffer want you to succeed and they want to help you,” said Joe. “Students should know that they will be challenged but will have a great deal of assistance along the way.”

Ashley Taillefer, Amanda’s sister, enrolled in Pfeiffer’s Master of Health Administration program in Raleigh this fall after learning from her sister and brother-in-law about their successful experiences in Charlotte.  
“I decided to pursue my MHA to follow my passion and capitalize on my leadership and business skills,” she said.

Like Amanda and Joe, Ashley appreciates the ability to balance graduate school with a full-time career.  She knows that with her Pfeiffer experience she’ll be ready not only for the challenges ahead but the benefits and rewards of earning a graduate degree.
